Welcome to the Mid Rivers library. Our library has become state of the art with a web-based circulation system which allows patrons to search our library from home. Our library is filled with internet accessible computers, a SMART board for student use along with many great books for students to read. Students can visit the library during their thirty minute class time or any other time that is convenient. Students can checkout two books at a time with one being on their current reading level and the other as a pleasure book. Kindergarten students typically enjoy a story and related craft. Primary students learn the basics of library organization and also listen to stories. Finally, the intermediate students work on library classification skills and hear motivational book talks. Book talks summarize stories we have in the library in order to peak interest in a wide variety of books.

Students at Mid Rivers participate in the Accelerated Reader program. This program allows staff members and parents to monitor the comprehension skills of the students. Students take an assessment test at least three times a year and receive a reading range based on their score. Students then take quizzes over books they’ve read and try to accomplish individual reading goals. Parents can receive scores via email to keep them up to date on their child’s progress. Special recognition is given each month to students who earn 80% or higher on the AR tests and also to students who read one million words during the school year.

Another program called Battle of the Books is an afterschool club where students K-5 can read books, join a team, participate in motivational reading activities, and answer trivia questions to become the Battle Champions! Students are sure to have fun. Information is sent home at the beginning of the school year regarding this club.

Thank you and come in and visit anytime!
